Our Curriculum: A Foundation for Life
Perseverance | Ambition | Community | Empathy
At St Paulinus Catholic Primary School, we believe every child deserves a curriculum that inspires curiosity, builds confidence and prepares them for a successful future. Rooted in Gospel values and our mission to nurture the whole child, our curriculum is both academically ambitious and spiritually enriching.
A Curriculum with Purpose
We follow the 2014 National Curriculum, but we go beyond its expectations. Our approach is:
- Ambitious: We challenge all children to achieve their full potential.
- Inclusive: Every child is supported to thrive, regardless of background or ability.
- Consistent: High standards of teaching and learning are maintained across all year groups.
Evidence-Informed Teaching
Our curriculum is built on the latest educational research about how children learn best. We provide a coherent, cumulative and connected learning journey, carefully sequenced to help pupils build deep knowledge over time.
We focus on two types of knowledge:
- Substantive knowledge – the facts and concepts within each subject.
- Disciplinary knowledge – how knowledge is gathered, interpreted, and evaluated.
Assessment with Impact
We assess pupils’ progress thoughtfully and purposefully. Staff use their knowledge of each child – and of the curriculum – to identify strengths and areas for development. Regular team meetings and moderation ensure consistency and accuracy in assessments, allowing us to plan the next steps in learning effectively.
