St Paulinus of York
Our Patron Saint is very special to us and we celebrate his Feast Day every year on 10th October. This always involves celebrating Mass with our Parish family.
Though not much is known about our Patron, we do know a few important pieces of information. First of all, St Bede described St Paulinus as,
“a tall, slightly stooped man with black hair, a thin face, and a slender,
hooked nose, bearing a venerable and awe-inspiring presence”
St Paulinus was the very first bishop of York. This, we think, makes him very special indeed! He was given a job by Pope Saint Gregory the Great to help the people of the North East of England (then Anglo-Saxon Britain) to grow in their knowledge and love of Jesus.
St Paulinus travelled with Ethelburg, sister of the Kentish King, to Northumbria to marry King Edwin. St Paulinus converted the king to Christianity.
In his later life, after the death of King Edwin, St Paulinus travelled back to Kent with Queen Ethelburg.
